One of the fun little touches in Forza Horizon 6 is making your car truly yours—starting with the license plate. Whether you want to show off your gamer tag, a favorite number, or a clever combination of letters, the game gives you a few ways to personalize your ride.

    Unlocking Plate Customization

Before you can change your license plate, you’ll need to get past the opening races of the game. Completing the first three or four introductory events will unlock access to either a Player House or a Festival site, which are the hubs for car customization.

Once you have access to one of these, you’re ready to start.

    Changing the Plate Text

Enter your Player House or drive into any Horizon Festival site.

Open the menu and head to the Garage tab.

    Select License Plate.

Enter your custom text—up to 8 characters.

Press Accept to save your changes.

It’s that simple, and now your car will proudly display your chosen identifier wherever you drive.

    Japanese Plate Style and Filters

Since Forza Horizon 6 is set in Japan, many of the standard license plates feature Japanese characters like Hiragana, giving your plate an authentic feel.

Available Characters: You can mix letters, numbers, and select Kana to create your plate. Small cars, or kei cars, automatically get yellow-and-black plates.

Filters: The game uses content filters to prevent offensive text. Some number-letter combinations—like “CO”, “C0”, “66”, “68”, “86”, and “88”—might be blocked by the system.

    Creating Full Custom Vanity Plates

If the standard text options aren’t enough, you can make fully custom plates using the Livery Editor. This is perfect if you want a unique design, regional style, or layered graphics.

Go to Designs and Paints from the Garage menu.

Select Apply Decals and position your camera at the rear bumper.

Place a base vinyl shape (like a white rectangle) over the existing plate.

Layer fonts, numbers, or regional indicators on top.

Alternatively, search the community for pre-made license plate decals and apply them directly to your car.

Using the livery editor opens up endless creative possibilities—you can essentially craft a vanity plate that looks like it came straight off the streets of Tokyo.
