TEREA是搭配 IQOS ILUMA 系列使用的專用菸草棒，本身含有菸草與尼古丁，因此不能視為一般無害產品。尼古丁具有成癮性，長期使用可能形成依賴，這也是了解 TEREA 風險時需要先注意的地方。
TEREA 透過相容主機進行加熱，使用方式與傳統紙菸直接燃燒不同。不過，「加熱」並不代表完全沒有健康風險。相關資料指出，加熱菸仍可能產生有害物質，因此不能單純以沒有燃燒或氣味較淡來判斷產品是否安全。
